Creative Community Solutions Lessons Learned
In early 2022, the Bush Foundation announced Strengthen ND as
one of its four partners to develop, implement, and evaluate a new
funding initiative: Community-Based Grantmaking Programs.
Our goal with this opportunity is to eliminate currently inequitable
and ineffective systems involved in philanthropy by increasing the
accessibility and flexibility of available charitable dollars.
As a part of our efforts to continually learn and
improve, we are offering our One-Year
Lessons Learned & Reflections to the
broader grantmaking field in North
Dakota and to inform past, current,
and future applicants.

Strengthen ND’s Grant Writing Manual, coupled with the Grant Writing Workshop Series, is meant to provide nonprofits and community groups with some easily implementable tips and tricks to improve your current grant writing methods. This manual is meant to be utilized as a reference guide and toolbook. Feel free to steal, copy, or otherwise plagiarize anything in this manual for your own use! There is no need to “reinvent the wheel” when it comes to grant writing in nonprofits in North Dakota. The more resources and strategies we share among the nonprofit community, the better off North Dakota will be.
